Singapore Sling

After a day of sightseeing around Singapore's China Town and Little India, we got our glad rags on and went into Raffles bar. This old Singapore establishment dates back to the colonial era when it was not considered appropriate for ladies to drink alcohol. The barman came up with a drink that looked like a fruit juice to enable them to get tipsy on the sly and hence the Singapore Sling was born. They aren't cheap in the original bar but they were very nice. There is a tradition for throwing peanut shells on the floor because that is what the British used to do. The whole floor was covered in peanut shells. Not a great place to go if you have an allergy!
