HMS Curacoa split in two by Queen Mary

Went for a walk around Ashaig cemetery this morning and saw again 13 gravestones of sailors lost when RMS Queen Mary on 2 October 1942 split HMS Curacoa in two. It occurred around twelve minutes past two off the coast of Donegal and the Queen Mary was travelling at 28 knots.

About 300 lost their lives and some bodies were washed up on Skye. RMS Queen Mary had orders not to stop and continued on her way with thousands of US soldiers on board.
