WOMAD - Tinariwen

The sun returned to WOMAD! And I found myself in the Taste the World tent where one of my favourite bands, Tinariwen, were sharing one of their recipes - a lamb stew.

These Taste the World sessions are great - the tent only holds about 100 people and you get an insight into the culture of the countries that the musicians come from and get to taste some of their food if you are fortunate enough to be near the front when the finished product is handed out.  The light in this tent was also beautiful, so really helped in getting some nice portraits of the band members, which can be seen here.

Other highlights of the day included the Shikor Bangladesh All Stars and a chance meeting with a lovely woman that Roland used to work with in the 80s in Bradford and who I became great friends with when I was active in the women's movement up there.  We haven't seen Carmel since about 1996.  It was a lovely moment when we recognised each other and you can see a photo of her and Roland as an 'extra'.

And to round off the day we had a rip-roaring ride on the Dodgems - Roland operated the pedals and I did the steering.  And most of the screaming!
