Mandy's photo journal

A little miracle.

This may not look like much to the average lay person, but looking at this photo you are unknowingly witnessing a minor miracle!
Many people are unaware that one of the most stressful aspects of working at the hospital is not the ever increasing workload, long unsocial hours or relentless bad press, but the constant and unrelenting fear that you won't be able to get a car parking space!
Hospital staff go to great lengths to get round the parking problem. There are all sorts of ways and means devised to reduce the number of cars on site, initiatives to get staff to cycle and deterrents such as monthly parking fees. But the die hard motorists will not be deterred.
The attainment of a parking space has meant that most of the staff try to get into work by 07:45 - any later and you could be driving round for hours. Late shifts are anticipated with dread, sometimes necessitating car park hopping where you have to use your tea breaks to move your car from one two hour spot to the next!
The misery of night shift, weekend working and bank holidays are almost worth it for the ease of being able to slide into one of many spare spaces giddyingly close to your chosen hospital entrance - sometimes you are so overwhelmed with choice that you are paralysed and can't decide which one to use, such is the luxury.
So imagine my delight when I bravely came into work at 11am today (what was I thinking) well prepared to drive round the site for 40 minutes, and I drove straight into a parking space as soon as I got into the car park!
It quite made my day :-)
