Today we visited Silverton, a once bustling mining town 25kms north west of Broken Hill.
There were once three thousand people here, but now about 90.
Even though everything's laid on for the tourists it's still worth a visit.
Only a few buildings spotted around, but they're very lovely.
Even if you don't live in Australia you've probably seen Silverton, as it's the location of many movies, not least the Mad Max series.

We had the obligatory pub lunch then went to the old Silverton Gaol, now a museum.
We were really enthralled with it, but just had half an hour there.
I took some random shots and have put them up here.

I was most taken with this photo, taken, I guess, about the turn of last century.
The lovely Monica , in the centre, obviously has everything.
She's got the perfect hair, a lovely face and is obviously adored and respected by her team mates, who all want to be her.

I wonder if her early promise was fulfilled:)
