But, then again . . . . .

Work in Progress.

We (the cycle club) noticed when we stopped for coffee in South Queensferry that "The Two Bridges," a hostelry that has been closed for many years after receiving appalling reviews from our members, has just re-opened as "The Three Bridges." It now looks quite smart though we'll defer judgement until we have sampled its fare.

As you can see, the new bridge is a long way from complete. Billed as "The Forth Replacement Crossing"  the announcement of the plan to build the bridge was first made at the end of 2007 and contracts were awarded for the design in April 2011 and  by February 2013 contracts to provide the road infrastructure had been made. Despite the slow start, it is claimed that the project is still on time and due to be completed next year, though precisely which part of the year seems to be a closely guarded secret. I'm going for December the 32nd.

The "name the bridge competition," vitally important to the overall success of the project, was announced in November 2012 with 9,300 independent names being submitted by the public; a team of independent scrutineers prepared a short list and a public vote was held early in 2013 (I don't remember being asked to participate and am most upset about that) with the winner being announced in June.   And the winner was . . . .

. . . . . . . . "Queensferry Crossing."

I still favour "The Third Forth Bridge to Fife."
