World Orienteering Championships, Scotland

We saw the junior athletes off from Lagganlia today and then headed north to our accommodation in Findhorn (lovely Rosebay Cottage!) before driving into Nairn to watch the WOC Mixed Sprint Race with four runners (two women and two men) competing for each country.  The women went out on the first leg in a mass start and this is them running out into the dune area for several controls before continuing in to the town itself for more traditional street racing.

There was a fantastic atmosphere in the assembly area with picturesque views all round and a huge crowd of spectators, a piped band, huge TV screen and a spectator run through - fabulous evening!  Sadly the GB team could not match the fantastic qualifying results of the first event yesterday and it looked like our first runner Holly was in some discomfort when she came through, so we are hoping she is okay.

Tomorrow it is our first race of the Scottish Six Days which takes place in and amongst WOC and then, in the evening, there is the final of the Individual Sprint with six out of six of our GB athletes running!
