Sissinghurst

During our very brief stay in Kent we took advantage of our National Trust membership to visit Sissinghurst Castle Garden, which was created in the 1930s by the writers Vita Sackville-West and her husband Harold Nicolson.

It was an enchanting place - the sort of garden I love, with its flower-filled 'rooms' and pathways creating a voyage of discovery for the visitor.

I could have spent hours there, but after a bite to eat we had to begin our 210-mile journey back home.
