16th century Carpet

The Anhalt Medallion Carpet

This carpet was made in the early 16th century and is an excellent example of the Safarvid period in Iran.

Much of the design is similar to book covers and manuscripts of the time suggesting the designs were all done by the same court workshop

It is just one of the stunning carpets on display at "The Metroplitan Museum" in New York

The museum is just sensational. I went back for another four hours today and just kept finding such wonderful treasures.
