Bryan in his element

Having spent 2 whole days scraping off the paint and limewash on the walls of the new toilets, then brushing them all over with a pva type of solution, at last it was the time to get plastering.  Olag, the tiler, mixed the plaster and stood by each volunteer as they tried their hand at this new technique.  Bryan was happy to have tools in hand again and the first coat was soon done.  This is our main project in Saptebani as the primary school has had outside toilets (squat-type long drops) till now.  The government are now requiring schools to upgrade to indoor toilets but provide no money for the work.  So the parents have to pay - or the school gets closed down.  Since the parents in this village are not very well off, the future of the school was in jeopardy - until Carmen, backed up by Mission Direct stepped in.  All the children we have met here are delightful - and we've met a lot more of them today as we helped run an inter-village football tournament which is always a big hit with the boys.
