Padlocks

We were in Bakewell today, where the famous Bakewell tarts come from.  Lots of shops there sell them and they all claim to be the original and the best.  I don't like Bakewell tarts at all so it really doesn't matter to me.

There's a little bridge that goes over a river from the car park to the town centre.  The last time we were in Bakewell, about two years ago, this bridge didn't have a single padlock attached to it but today it is absolutely covered in them.  This trend seems to have started in France where you declare your undying love for someone by writing your name on a padlock, locking it onto the bridge then throwing the key in the water.  It's kind of sweet but everybody seems to be doing it now and I believe some bridges are suffering structural damage due to the sheer weight of all the padlocks!

I didn't see any keys in the water.  Maybe they got washed away, or maybe they kept the key (just in case!)
