Desire

Edward Rochester liked to visit other people's homes as he found they gave him ideas for DIY improvements in his own modest dwelling.  He spent a long time wondering how he could best achieve the "Haddon Hall" effect in his own courtyard.

He had seen the Long Gallery earlier on his tour (see today's extra photo) and was convinced he could achieve something similar by knocking through a few downstairs walls.

He desperately wanted to share his plans with Jane, but knew in his heart that they would be unfulfilled while he remained married to Bertha, who, alas, was no longer the full shilling.
