Floating life

One of my most striking Cambodia memories will be this tour of a Vietnamese floating village on the Tonle Sap near Kampong Chhnang.

We got absolutely drenched but it was a fascinating slice of life. Everything - commerce, socalising, family life, business - takes place among a network of homes and businesses floating on the lake. Life has been going on this way for generations, People have TVs and other modern technology (such as the occasional motorbike I saw sitting on a raft) but I imagine the thought of being transplanted onto land would be petrifying. The way that human lifestyles differ from each other is so fascinating.
