A BEAUT DAY.....

.... started with joining Alice at her kinda gym.... what fun they have jumping and bouncing, she loves it.

We then went to lunch at a local pub which has been around seems for ever, the Grey Gums Hotel. The food setup is run by a friends brother and thought about time we checked it out. Alice had a super time in the play gym thingo, which they seem to have at every venue these days, and the food was super.

The pub gets its name from a number of enormous Eucalyptus grey Gums  along the front of the pub. It boards the main Mulgoa Road going into Penrith, and although knowing the trees attracted hundreds of white cockatoos and galas, never realised there were other varieties using the trees hollow trunks as their nesting spot. The leaves from these Grey Gums are also one of the main leaves eaten by our koala.

We found this family of Scaly-breasted Lorikeets teaching its young one how to feed and maybe fly (check the extra)

Also found a pair of Red-Rumped Parrots - commonly known as "grass or ground parrots". The male as you will see in extras is very colourful, and the female plainer colouring and tending the nest.

For both in the info on the link from Birds in Backyards go down on the right of page and listen to their calls.

All in all a much needed relaxing day.

Enjoy, and have a look in LARGE

.... indicating just how much bird activity around these gums, see the last extra, a pair of corellas tending their tree nest.
