Flower Power

Couldn't help but admire the pyramids of colour dotted round the town centre of Eastleigh which I visited today.
Too often critics attack towns, the local authority or traders about a perceived lack of vision, but whoever is behind the organisation and placing of these street decorations, deserves all the praise you can lavish on them.
Not so long ago, the town thrived as a railway town because of its rail workshops. It was also the home of the Ford Motor Company's commercial vehicle operation, building the ubiquitous Transit van, and at one time during the Second World War the mighty Spitfire aircraft was built in the same factory before it became a vehicle assembly plant.
The town was also home to the Italian Pirelli company making high power electricity transmission cables and communication cables.
Its economic focus has been forced to change over time as manufacturing interests have changed or closed, yet judging by life and colour in the streets today, there is still plenty of initiative.
These floral pyramids as street decoration are unshakeable evidence of that.
