Here We Go Again!

The first day of the new football season has come around already and saw us down at St James' Park the home of Exeter FC ( not the Newcastle one!)

Adam Stansfield was a popular West Country boy who played for both clubs. In April 2010 he was diagnosed with bowel cancer and, despite various treatments, he died just months later on 10 August.

Whenever the two teams meet, the supporters play a charity match in his memory and the main match is marked by applause in the 7th & 9th minutes, the two numbers he wore for the different clubs.

His family set up a charitable foundation in his memory to raise awareness of bowel cancer and raise money to support local junior sports clubs.

At half time, his three young sons paraded around the ground with a picture of their Dad as part of the day's celebration of his life.

As for the game itself, we were outplayed in the first half and we're deservedly 2-0 down. In the second, we played much better and fought back to 2-2, only to concede a late goal and lose 3-2, a habit that has cost us dear over the last two seasons. It's a habit that we need to kick pretty quickly this season.
