Solitude

You can guarantee that if there is only one other person on a beach with a sandbar, he/she will be out there. A deep primeval yearning for space or solitude perhaps, or a quest, how far can I go? Then there's the added frisson of danger - thanks to the vicissitude of the tide, the way back might not be quite as simple as the journey out.
