Shag/Cormorant Colony ?

This colony is on a small rock just outside Dunbar Harbour. I not sure if they are shags or cormorants though by their size I suspect they are probably shags. I find shags with very dark plumage are difficult to photograph. They seem to spend an inordinate amount of time with their heads down preening themselves so I was lucky to catch one at the top of the rock in full cry. I like the way the wave action spreads the guano into little rivulets over the rocks.

What is extremely odd though is the way that the extreme length of my telephoto lens combination has compressed the background of Bass Rock and the Fife coast so that it seems to be just across the way when in fact it is miles away across the Firth of Forth.
