Vaguely Marvellous

Day 4 - 40km - Monmartin-sur-Mer to Jouloville

The morning's ride was gorgeous, sunny and on beautiful quiet roads down to the sea. We went to have lunch on the beach, and when we got there it was ever so quiet. Over the period of the next hour or so, it got more and more busy with people arriving with baskets and rakes. Turns out it was something called "la pêche à pied" where locals are allowed to collect seafood from the beach at very low tides. It was quite a spectacle. If we could have worked out how to deal with enough mussels for four on a campsite I think we might have joined in.

After lunch we cycled into the wind along the coast, and then took a while to find a campsite, settling for the smallest and most basic and spending the evening watching the other people on the site, endlessly fascinating!

Today's extra is the dashing Monsieur Marc, to remind me of the campsite owner who was very taken with him, and because it shows how he liked to carry the bread on the back of his bike at all times!
