Life in the fast lane

Inspired by some other long shutter speed shots I have seen recently, I decided to read up on it and give it a try, my first attempts were not great, very over exposed.

But after some tweaking I managed to get some better results, although I would like to use much longer shutter speeds in day light and found anything over much 2 seconds to be imposable. I think I need to invest in some Neutral Density filters, just a question of which ones to get for a start?
