Anne's Daily Encounters

Into another world

Took to the beach after a day's work and read on in Jorge Semprun's volume 'Such a beautiful Sunday' (Quel beau Dimanche!) where he tells from his memories of a beautiful Winter's Sunday in concentration camp Buchenwald at the Ettersberg near Weimar and continues his flash-forwards and flash-backs all thro' the book on his thoughts and experiences with Nazism and Communism, history and fantasy, morals and choices made.
His stories of his life are so captive, read all of his books years ago, then borrowed from the library, now I look for them to buy and reread wherever I am and found the volume 'Schreiben oder Leben' (Literature or Life) last week in Luxembourg city ~ it always pleases me that booksellers know this author too and like to command on his works, that happened to me in Athens, in Graz and Innsbruck and Münich and Amsterdam and Breda and now in Luxembourg too.
Read his books full of compassion and doubt and sense of sarcasm!
