The Wren

EJ

On our last day up north we took in a visit to the Loch Garten RSPB site, home to a pair of ospreys called EJ and Odin.  This is a very grainy shot as it was taken from the live web cam as this was the nearest we managed to get to EJ who was waiting for a fish from her partner, Odin.  Unfortunately there were no chicks to be seen this year as while EJ and Odin had successfully mated and had three eggs, an intruder young male osprey had come in to the nest, chased Odin away and brutally destroyed the eggs.  He then tried, unsuccessfully, to mate with EJ and finally flew off to allow Odin to return but too late for any further offspring this year. They are now feeding up ready for their incredibly long migration to the west coast of Africa which will start in a few weeks time.

We finished our day with another good walk and finally arrived home very happy with our week away but all very tired.
