Baby House Martins

Each year, we have House Martins building nests in the eaves of our sheds.

It's such a thrill to see them return from Africa in the Spring and build their little mud nests to lay their eggs and prepare for their young to arrive .

This afternoon, these little babies had left the nest and were huddled on the step of the shed, which allowed me to to get right in close for this shot.

Worried about their safety, we put them back in the nest but two instantly came out again and fluttered across the ground for cover.  I guess they must be almost ready to fly.

The House Martins will be here until late September/early October when they will migrate south for the winter.
