Dog Days Are Over

'Dog Days is the name for the most sultry period of summer, from about July 3 to Aug. 11. Named in early times by observers in countries bordering the Mediterranean, the period was reckoned as extending from 20 days before to 20 days after the conjunction of Sirius (the dog star) and the sun.'

What better way to spend a lazy summer day than at that bastion of English eccentricity, the Village Fete.
This afternoon's event was at our neighbouring village of Kinwarton, and we got there in time to see the dog show with such classes as 'The dog which the judge would most like to take home', and the 'The dog which looked most like its owner' .
This picture is of Sally ( I think) sporting two rosettes for coming second in the 'Dog with the waggiest tail' and the winner of the best ' Handled by a child' classes. Congratulations to Sally and her young expert handlers on their success.
I took a big bag to carry home our winnings but we left empty handed after our dismal performances on Spin the Wheel, Skittles and Splat the Rat ( don't ask). Must do more training next year.
