Icarus

My lunchtime walk today was curtailed by a torrential rain shower. I just had time to get this shot of one of the Lickey Hills wooden sculptures (see May 9th for another of these sculptures).

This one is called 'Icarus' and is by John Vaughan of Dudley. It represents Icarus launching himself into flight. While the original Icarus came to a scorching end, this one is sadly succumbing to damp. If you zoom in close you will see that he has sprouted fungus around both ears - fungus that looks very much like the "Chicken of the Woods" that I blipped on June 8th.

This photo also shows the profusion of bilberry bushes that can be found on parts of the Lickey Hills. This is taken on Cofton Hill and the neighbouring hill is actually called Bilberry Hill.
