The Farne Islands

Woke up to a beautiful day.  After breakfast the HG and I, along with my nephew and family, headed for Seahouses and a boat trip to the Farne Islands.  We had a cruise around the islands, I had not realised there were so many, over twenty, and we saw lots of seabirds and Grey Seals too.

We passed Longstone Lighthouse, made famous in 1838 by Grace Darling, the lighthouse keeper's daughter, when with her father she rescued nine survivors from the Forfarshire, a steam ship which ran aground in stormy seas.

We landed on Inner Farne for an hour, where St. Cuthbert spent the final days of his life.  We saw lots of seabirds, and visited the little church there.

Afterwards the HG and I strolled around Bamburgh, a very pleasant place, before heading back for dinner, and to hear the other tales of the day.

Have posted some extra photos of the day below.

And had a hectic game of Trivial Pursuit in the evening.......
