VJ Day 70th Anniversary

These three men all have something in common, they all saw active service in the Far East during the second world war.

The main photo is my Grandfather, the two smaller ones are my Husband's Grandfathers. All three would eventually return home.

While Britain was awash with street parties and bonfires to celebrate VE Day in May 1945, thousands of miles away, British and Commonwealth Armed Forces were still fighting in Burma, Singapore and Thailand.

The British and Commonwealth campaign in the Far East was the longest campaign of the war. Continuous fighting raged for three full years. The British Forces over there, unlike their comrades fighting in Europe, had no leave during which they could go home, even if it was for just a few days. They were there for the duration; their only hope of seeing Britain was in victory. http://www.britishlegion.org.uk/remembrance/vj-day)
