Long Day

It has definitely been a long trip.  We left Nelson at 4 a.m. and made it to Gisborne at 9 p.m.

On the way we took a slight detour to Haumoana where we lived for part of my childhood.  I took photos of our old place - when we lived there it was a corner store with our living area out the back and upstairs, now it has been converted into just a house.

We drove up to our old school for a look around and down to the beach (which was a block from our house).  As you can see it definitely isn't a swimming beach!  We did our swimming in the Tukituki River instead.  The land mass backing the bay is Cape Kidnappers - the only place on the mainland of New Zealand where gannets nest and raise their young.
