Fringe Flyers

I imagine a lot of trees are mercilessly slaughtered each year in the run up to the Fringe, just to provide flyers!

I saw three shows today :-

"Beowulf" : A retelling of the old classic, a poet recites the story of Beowulf while it is acted out by puppets. It was very well done, the wording was re-written from the "original" but kept "Ye Olde" Anglo-Saxon style and the puppets were quite charming. As per usual, the full story is cut short after Grendal's Mother's defeat and the third battle against the dragon and Beowulf's death was skipped (got to have a happy ending). Well worth seeing.

"Future Honey" : This show was a little surreal, it's described as "devised, physical theatre", I've no idea what that means but this video will give you some idea. It tells a tale of what happens when three young woman suddenly lose their all encompassing "connection" and are thrown into a surreal video game type challenge to retrieve it. Good fun, amusing and entertaining.

"Church of Malcolm" : This wasn't quite what I expected, but it was basically a three piece band playing music interspersed with some chat, jokes and guest appearances. The description said "Like a more positive take on the Rocky Horror Show", I'm not sure where they got this from as it was nothing remotely like Rocky Horror in any way! But the music was good and it was an enjoyable show to end the day on.

More shows tomorrow...
