The second half of life..

Philosophising

Today was the culmination of quite a bit of work which began back in April when we took senior students to Wellington to participate in the Senior Philosophy Conference.  This woman, Julie Arliss, was a key presenter and was incredibly engaging.

By the time we left the conference some colleagues had pretty much organised for her to come to Nelson and present when she returned in August - now! - to do a Junior Philosophy Conference.  We hosted her at my school - 130 10-14 year-olds engaging in some incredibly high-powered discussion and debate on 'What makes you you?', 'Is there life after death or death after life?', 'An introduction to the science of Genetic Engineering' and a debate on the illusion of free-will.

Overall feedback from students - they loved it!  And so did I.
