Stourhead

A really rainy, misty (which eventually turned into fog) day today.  On our way to Devon, we stopped in at Stourhead, a magnificent Palladian mansion built in the 1740's on 2,650 stunning acres of Wiltshire countryside.  The grounds contain a beautiful lake, which is ornamented by several classical temples, grottoes, and superb specimen trees.  Although the weather was pretty miserable, it did lend a rather romantic feeling to the place.

We are now comfortably ensconced at the lovely Sidmouth home of our friends John and Diana, where we will be spoiled rotten for the next couple of days!
