Getty Panorama

We took a double outing today: first to the Getty Center just north of downtown Los Angeles, and in the afternoon to the Getty Villa in Malibu, to the west on the Pacific Coast. This is a northerly panorama (merged from four images in Photoshop) from one of the Getty Center's many balconies and terraces.  The highway is Interstate 405, and closer up are parts of a road up to the Center from the valley; visitors cannot drive, however; they must park below and take a tramway (which roughly parallels the road but is not visible here). The Center is huge, and we saw only the European paintings before having lunch.

The Getty Villa is a "recreation of an ancient Roman country house", and it houses the Getty's superb collection of Greek, Etruscan and Roman antiquities. Both Marylee and I had last visited it at least 25 years ago; in the meantime it has undergone a major reconstruction and expansion.  It was a fascinating visit.
