Mrs B.

Our baby bluebirds fledged today. This morning they were all in their house and this afternoon they were not. Sadly, I missed the big event. After a little bit of scouting around the yard I found them in one of the big pine trees, their parents still dutifully feeding them. So good-bye little Sapphire, Powder, Baby, Robin's Egg and what's the other one? Oh yes. Forgetmenot. Enjoy your freedom. Watch out for those broad winged hawks that live behind the house.

Mrs. B. is sitting on the top of the Colorado Blue Spruce, one of her favorite hawking spots, looking slightly worse for wear. She has a stray feather on her head. I'm kind of hoping that the bluebirds will build another nest, but they've raised two broods already this summer, so maybe that's enough.
