The Glade

It is good to have a short walk close to the house and I was hopeful of finding a few last wild raspberries but most of them were rotting on the bushes.   No butterflies or insects were around to sample them.  In fact there was very little sight or sound of any living creature.
Only the sound of a huge Caterpillar tractor cutting down the tough  oilseed rape stalks before turning the soil over and spreading a foul smelling fertiliser and two distant combine harvesters could be heard.  Last night they didn’t return to the farm till almost midnight but perhaps as it is pouring they will come up the road with lights blazing much earlier, although it is still almost eleven now.  It must be difficult for farm workers to arrange a social life during the harvest season especially when they have to rely on good weather to gather in the crops.  I’m glad I am not dependent upon the weather but would have liked to have seen more warm sunshine this year.
