Heather on the Moor

Today was the final stage of the Exe Valley Way with us walking from Withypool to the source of the River Exe on Exmoor.  The weather was kind to us as we traveled over the heather laden green hills and along the river valleys.  It has been the River Barle that we have seen for the past few walks but we finally made it to Exe Head where a small trickle of water came out from the ground, that would eventually reach Exmouth where our walk began.  A bottle of Champagne was shared around and we returned a very contented muddy group disturbing a small herd of Red Deer on the way.  See extra photos for a distant view of the deer, Meadow Brown butterflies and the Exe Head.
