Great Blue Heron (and Belted Kingfisher)

It was a beautiful afternoon today so, after some errands, we stopped by the McKenzie Marsh in Aurora to see what was there. It was a heron fest!

The western marsh had two great blue herons, a black-crowned night heron, and a great egret. The eastern marsh had three great blue herons and two great egrets.

Also seen were several cormorants, a wood duck, loads of mallards a couple of painted turtles, two cedar waxwings, and a few belted kingfishers. Quite the photo op!

I caught the kingfisher as it was hovering to take a plunge. The light on it isn't the best but it's a nice action shot so it is in my extra photos section below. Do have a look. As to the great blue, I'm very pleased with this close-up. I hope you like it, too.

Linda also is posting bird shots from this outing.
