Salt of the Earth

Well, on the last full day of our weekend away in Anstruther, the rain finally relented!!

There were a few spots here and there but nothing serious. The Dreel Burn was running very high though as it emptied into the sea so there must have been lots of rain up in them thar hills!!

Drove down to Dalgety Bay 1st thing to watch our Grandson play his last under 15 match for Raith Rovers. Unfortunately, they lost 4-1 to Hearts but the guys played well.

Will be watching the team play under 17's next season.

On the way back, we stopped off at St. Monans and took a walk around the harbour. Must say, I really like these East Neuk villages and - as usual - I took more than a few photographs.

A short walk along the Coastal Path brings you to St. Monans Saltpans, established in 1771.

There were - I read - nine Saltpans, a settling tank and a windmill pump (pictured).

Turns out that in the 17th century, salt was Scotland's third most important export. Wool and coal being the biggest. The things you learn!!

After that, it was back to Anstruther and a pint of the dark stuff, followed by yet another of the town's famous fish suppers.
