Independence Day

The trolley buses were stopped, cathedral park was lined with craft stalls, flags flew and the national anthem blared out across Chisinau's main street of Stephan Cel Mare, named after the hero who drove the Turks out of this country several hundred years ago; and all to celebrate Moldova's Independence Day which was established in 1991, around the time the value of their currency, the leu, nosedived leaving many families destitute.
In spite of that, the atmosphere was cheerful and like a festival and we were happy to have been here today.
