Guillemot Heaven...

We were headed south for a well known walrus haul-out this morning but hit thick fog and ice so Plan B came into play. We turned around and headed back north to Alkefjellet and its 100 metre dolorite cliffs.

Our wildlife spectacular today were the resident breeding pairs of Brunich's Guillemots - around 60,000 pairs! We also had our first sighting of......Arctic foxes. This included a rare blue fox, which was actually brown. They do not turn completely white in the winter like the more common foxes. This was a perfect hunting spot for the foxes with all these breeding birds.

We had a planned landing this evening at Palanderbukta which lasted all of five minutes. The reason......a sighting of a big white fluffy thing and cub. Unfortunately, only the scouting crew saw them. So it was back on the ship for us all, with heavy hearts as we still hadn't seen those big white fluffy things yet.
