Candles on the Cobb

5,000 candles lining the Cobb at Lyme Regis. An amazing sight. Since 2000 this event has taken place every 3 years in aid of local and national charities. Thousands of people come to witness the spectacle as darkness falls over the harbour. Candles are 'purchased' for loved ones from all over the world as well as by local people and lit in a well choreographed sequence by teams of volunteers. Tonight they managed to light all 5,000 in just 9 minutes. Seeing the lines of lights snaking out across the sea is fascinating. The fireworks at the end of the night were pretty spectacular too (extra pic) and the rain held off until the last few fireworks were set off...amazing.
