Cairnpapple

As it was a nice morning we drove out to Cairnpapple Hill in West Lothian. The site is thought to be first used 3500bc in the Neolithic with various henges built in the early Bronze age. Its fantastic vista means it was re-used with the a small cairn and 7ft standing stone next to a burial, which was increased to a 50ft cairn and then a 100ft cairn and relatively high. There are also some Christian burials on the site from around 1000ad.

It was a bit hazy today but the views were immense, up the forth, over the forth to Fife and out to sea, backtowards Edinburgh & Pentlands and finally to the SW hills in Lanarkshire.

Afternoon was at the new monumnet of West Lothian...MacArthur Glen Shopping Centre.
