Mermaid

They bought her to The Institute in the middle of the night.

During the day, they measured and tested her. But during the night, when we were alone, she talked to me; crying salt-water tears as she told me about her salt-water home.

She told me of her people's custom to find husbands from amongst the fishermen who lived on the shore.

After ten weeks, we were afraid that their measurements and tests would notice the changes that were happening to her and it became absolutely imperative that she should escape.
