The Geeky Christian

Today we ventured into Bury St. Edmond's, a place that Mum & Dad once visited in the 80s and thought I might like to see! Had a nice Sunday roast at a carvery just outside the town. We went to the cathedral of course (though I was a bit disappointed to learn that it was mostly modern and it was ridiculous trying to find it, no signage! We ended up doing it back to front!) and found ourselves some more tea and cake (of course!).

We also had a good look round the Abbey Gardens park behind (where this shot was taken) which was the best bit, the Abbey that used to stand here was amazing, would have dwarfed the cathedral, and had a massive tower, the support pillars are still there and they were some of the biggest I've ever seen. Very ancient too, the Barons that forced King John to sign the Magna Carta met there to agree about what they would do in 1214 and it was already well established then! The descriptions of St Edmund's burial area were amazing too, sounds like an amazing treasure, now lost of course! Don't we all love King Henry VIII.

And we had amazing weather all day to boot, very fresh to start (can't remember when I last experienced such clear fresh weather!) with with good visibility and then getting quite warm towards the end of the day, which wasn't forecast at all.
