Hill Top Ramblings

Finally!

It has been a wait of several years, since seeing a full grown Eucryphia Nymansay in bloom at Sizergh Castle and receiving one for my birthday, until finally celebrating its first blooms!
The journey has not been without its troubles.
Those two terribly hard winters saw it wrapped in sacking and surviving.
On reaching a good six foot I decided to remove its wire mesh protection only to see the bark of several stems stripped overnight by a visiting deer!
The plant quickly threw up som shoots from the base, which seems to be its normal growth pattern anyway.
The remaining tall stem produced three buds in early summer and I have been anxiously monitoring them until this weekend, voila!
I fully expect that in only another ten years or so it will be a glorious sight!
