Colchicum autumnale

The very name gives it away. Another sign of autumn approaching though the forecast is for high pressure over us for a change. These flowers which look so like a crocus send their large leaves up in April yet the flowers only push through the soil in late August /September. They are a welcome splash of colour under the old Plum trees.
