A Day Trip in the Haar

Perhaps I should have kept quiet about the lovely summer weather we have currently been having here in Edinburgh, because the inevitable has happened and the East Coast haar has made an appearance to spoil our party.
Nevertheless, we were convinced that during our sortie to Lauder to meet friends for lunch today the sun would burn through the mist and miraculously appear. However we were disappointed that the only glimpse we saw all day was just outside Dalkeith on the return journey.

We are trying to remain positive in our adjustment to being carless in a world dominated by those very things. The pace of life slows down to that of a bus timetable and it is necessary to practice patience together with the ability to smell the roses, or in this case examine the thistles growing beside the bus stop on our way home.

On the upside, there is no extortionate garage rent, car insurance, road tax or the cost of petrol, and we have our invaluable bus passes. The roses are beginning to smell even more beautiful.
