Lobster Boat

This is off the north side of Deerness, the peninsula on the eastern side of mainland Orkney. I shot the same boat last week on the south side, but I like this better as it has the foreground of the shags on the rocks. Shags have been nesting here for a long time- a nearby part of the shore is called .scarva taing'- scarva meaning shag and taing is a tongue of stone. I walked from Lighthouse corner around much of Deerness ending at Dingieshowe. birds included buzzard, peregrine, wheatear, whinchat, whooper swan, black-tailed godwits, a flock of 250+ golden plover etc. More here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/octobermoth/ The extra shot is of the first shaggy ink cap fungus I've found this year.
