Kestrel resting

I see this kestrel most days when I walk the dogs over the common but it's always one step ahead of me, spots me first and then flies off leaving me to watch its distinctive form disappear into the distance (and it's very fast, I can tell you).  Today however I spotted it as it flew up from the ground onto a branch and I managed to creep up from behind, get fairly close and snap a few pictures before it finally saw me - or more likely the dogs - and disappeared off as usual.  A nice encounter.
