I Am Not Lost

one month

i've been in iceland for a month as of today, heck yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!
i woke up with the goal of cycling to seltjarnarnes and around the entire peninsula on which reykjavík resides, but was momentarily thwarted by the rain. so i made a quick detour to the flea market and then headed on my way.

the lighthouse is at the tip of the peninsula, which is apparently an island called grótta at high tide (i guess i have really good timing that i got there at low tide). spent some time bird watching and beach combing:

sponges, endless rockweed and kelp, purple mussel shells, bryozoans, HUGEEEE laminaria digitata holy crap (i don't know if you know this but i'm obsessed with kelp) and a beautiful lacy red algae that makes me wish i had my sea shore field guide. yeah also some birds. just kidding. i worked at the lab of ornithology. but i don't know a ton of the birds here and i didn't have my binoculars. but i definitely saw oystercatchers, greater black backed gulls, cormorants and like........ other things.....

listen, it's not that i don't like birds, it's just that kelp is so much more exciting. slimy. you can throw it at people and make it into wigs and dresses. kelp is interactive. birds fly away when you get too close.

found a HUGE ASS GROCERY STORE THAT IS DESERVING OF THE TITLE OF "SUPERMARKET," made some badass soup and seedy nutty rye bread yum.

also my hair is pink, just a reminder
