Koh-I-Nor in Flowers.

Grateley, Hampshire. St.Leonard`s Church Flower Show. This years theme is periods in history. Gwyneth Tierney did this one titled `The Victorians`.
She explained that Grateley had a connection to India, Queen Victoria and the Koh-I-Nor diamond.
John Lawrence, born and bred in the village, plus his four brothers went off to India to work for the East India Company. Young John later became Viceroy in 1863, but before that `requisitioned` the 793 carat Mountain of Light jewel in the Punjab.
Told by his masters to give it to Queen Victoria, which he did on the Isle of Wight, July 1850. She then had the title as Queen of India.
The jewel is now part of the Consorts Royal Crown, last outing in public on top of the Queen Mums coffin in 2002.
Estimated value is £200 million. Next public outing perhaps by Queen Camilla.?
Both Pakistan and India would like the jewel returned.
Anyway, Sir John Lawrence returned to Grateley, farming and helping his wife have 10 children.
